Visually so pretty but everything else (story, music, casting, voices) about the movie sucked
Can appreciate that this was very ground breaking at the time of release, but this lacks vitality that would make this interesting to listen to now
Highly enjoyable visually spectacular movie. Very easy watching
Campy, light and gory movie. Not much substance but was inoffensive and enjoyable watching Nicholas Cage hamming it up as Dracula
So glad he is producing music again – a partial return to form
Anodyne and sleepy. The lyrics are kinda silly and the instrumentation does very little to mask this fact. Urgh – I ended up revisiting this album not realising I’d already previously listened and reviewed it… – A very promising lead single (“Nothing Left To Lose”) but the album progressively reveals to me what has possibly […]
A repeated watching after many years, vaguely remembering the twist, means that a lot of the foreshadowing is very clever. However…just didn’t seem as amazing to me this time around
Expertly crafted slasher flick. Not something I would see willingly but I can appreciate the craft that went into making it
The use of “them/they/their” for the gender less main character was grating. Novel was otherwise pleasant and easy to read
Very nearly considered purchasing this book club novel. A lovely perambulation through the romantic relationship memories between two writers Published: 2017 Completed: 10/04/2023 Pages: 291 This book is a non fiction account of Bill Hayes’ relationship with the city of New York and his partner, the renowned Oliver Sacks. I really enjoyed this book. Reading […]
Despite not knowing anything except “Mr Jones” this was a very enjoyable gig. Lead singer was highly expressive and the band was very engaging. Overall a very accomplished set. The poetry and talent really shone through
Did not finish. Inoffensive enough – just did not capture my interest
So much style and cool. Very fun to watch and very well put together
An interesting enough anime that would have been spectacular at the time of its release. However I have no nostalgia attached to this and subsequently, the movie has diminished impact on me
Probably the first Gorillaz album I’ve enjoyed in a while. First two thirds is great, the last third not so much
Cute and great to watch with the earnest reactions of the mostly young audience. However I’m glad I didn’t pay for this
I think the only good episode in this series was the gay one. Also the ending – while true to the game – sucked
A great show; suitably quirky and spectacular. Even songs I didn’t really like were enjoyable live
Every element of this play was excellently executed but in excess. If the production and story could have been simplified it would have been a lot more enjoyable. Instead this felt like being pelted with bricks for two hours
Watched when Pepper escaped from the yard, adding to the harrowing feeling. Like a modern relentless suburban and personal take on 2001 Space Odyssey
An inventive and fun interactive play with strangers contributing to the majority of the show’s execution https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/electric-dreams-work-txt-af2023
Very modern funky and innovative staging. A predictable but still enjoyable young adult theatre experience
Enjoyable and aggressively ruddy show. Great translation of the live show with some very good contestants https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/hard-quiz-live-hosted-by-tom-gleeson-af2023
Exhausting authoritative bombastic show with 10,000% energy. A two hour show with multiple costume changes, burlesque shows, incredible music and audience participation. Left feeling spent
A plainly written, colourless romance novel Published: 2020 Completed: 2023/02/28 Pages: 371 A very straight forward and easy to read novel about two women – Ashley and Nikki – and their relationships with each other, their children and respective partners. Despite a plot that was obvious from the very beginning, there is some enjoyment in […]
Enjoyable and intimate show with some genuinely funny moments. Only bad thing was that it was probably over rehearsed and had zero audience interaction https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/andrew-hansen-is-cheap-af2023
Good set by Bad Religion, but found support and headliners a bit samey
Really enjoyed this movie. At times it felt like a very conscious oblique intellectual exercise but after the first half an hour, opened into an intriguing multi dimensional world that allowed for lots of interesting analytical possibilities. Still mulling over it a few days after
Tasty, generous food, very fair prices, in a laidback, casual atmosphere. The meatball sandwich is incredible – so so good. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available, but this is limited – so either takeaway or come outside of the lunch rush if you expect to dine in. Location Shop 1/89 The Parade, Norwood […]
Enjoyable and relatable but kinda background music. Possibly because I was work stressing
I don’t play many games, but this was so beautiful in its visual design. I loved the premise of playing as a cat and felt invested in the world that was built
Technically well shot, acted and produced. Unfortunately the story itself was predictable drivel
I am tired of depictions of violence against women. As well produced as this movie is, I didn’t see the point. Not sure it sheds any new light on mental illness or that there was any character development during the course of the movie
Beautiful animated movie of the tragedy affecting Afghanistan.
Actually terrible. There probably was a good movie in there somewhere, at some point, but what made it to the screen was drawn out and unfinished. Full of plot holes and annoyingly dumb. Unfortunately Australian
An incredible movie that still holds up after all this time – possibly strong nostalgia effect
Absolutely not the sort of novel I would normally read. It was gruesomely violent but very suspenseful and exceedingly well paced. Let down by stereotypical characterisations Published: 2020 Completed: 2023/01/04 Pages: 482 Absolutely not the sort of book I would normally read. Having said that, it was exceedingly well constructed with superb pacing and plot. […]
Mildly amusing TV series that is essentially a variation on Squid Game but suffers the same issues of over staying its welcome
Fantastic and hugely influential production design and aesthetic but poor pacing that let it all down
Predictable, but well produced, shot, acted, soundtracked and ultimately enjoyable movie. The drab Icelandic scenery was a bit disappointing – this is not a tourism piece – but the overall aura was compelling. Achievable on what should be a modest team and budget?
Excellent and generous curry, naan and rice. When I dined in, there was only one person doing both the orders and serving. They were very attentive and as fast as they could be. Restaurant itself is possibly a little plain / modest but it is quiet and suitable for conversation – not something you can […]
Very short book of short stories. Enjoyable, succinct and at its best, reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s shorts
Interesting concept, with what appears to be an intentionally bad fx aesthetic. Seems like it was produced for incels
Surprisingly and shockingly good pho. I wasn’t expecting very much given there are not many Asian grocery stores in the area, but the noodles here stand on their own and are very generous and flavourful – lack of smell thanks to covid notwithstanding! My only complaint is the lack of basil accompanying the pho, otherwise […]
Interesting non fiction facts about cats. Was a bit repetitive after a while
Really interesting doomsday premise: rapid devolving of human society into fetid and base animals. Unfortunately like a lot of media in this genre, I was left wanting regarding an explanation of cause
