A rambling movie that didn’t really seem to have a clear direction, function or message
Great food clearly made with love and care. Menu appears to be entirely meat free. If you are a meat eater like me, don’t let this fact discourage you because you won’t miss the meat – a meal here will leave you feeling full, satisfied and happy. Great chips and the most amazing rich and […]
An intriguing and well constructed movie about family grief. I think art house horror is actually pretty easy to tolerate and I get now why it’s so popular
Beautiful photography, with a 2000s time capsule sound track. Acting was a little irregular as too the actual editing and construction of the film. However, still intriguing and enjoyable
Very professional, fun and high energy concert. I felt very old by the end of the night with all the strobing
A very accomplished and confident album with 2000s pop call backs. However I just couldn’t get into it despite repeated listens
I have been absolutely flogging this album. Very personal themes but still that great retro pop vibe. Sad boppers
Confounding and badly written movie. Not sure who the intended audience is; too violent for kids, too lame for adults. I felt sorry for the actors
Very well made gay drama that is actually very close to being a horror movie
Retro trance vibes with amazing cover artwork by David Rudnick. WOW
Surprisingly well put together movie that had audiences sobbing by the end
Charming, original and touching movie about a friendship between a dog and robot. Did not end the way I would have liked, but any movie that can make me teary is good
Poorly constructed melodrama that serves more as an industry in-joke than anything enjoyable
Absurd and rich production full of intricate details. However, this makes me hanker for the details from the original novel
Pitch perfect and thoughtful horror movie that I am proud to know was made and filmed in Adelaide
A dreary but well written book. I can appreciate why others would like it, but I guess I really do not like the detective genre Published: 2018 Completed: 13/10/2023 Pages: 380 Rúin is an intriguing detective story that links two apparent suicides that occurred more than 20 years apart. It is compelling and well written, […]
There can be no doubt that there was superb skill in the execution of each dish, however in the 6 course tasting menu I found the texture of each dish too similar to each other. The beetroot, the marron, the fish were too similar – that is, something soft, on a bed of some type […]
An extremely long two hours of relentless and inescapable sadism. Well made, but unpleasant to watch
Beautiful and enchanting film about a young shapeshifting witch and her journey to understand humans after being raised in isolation. Lovely score, incredible cinematography and understated but pitch perfect acting
Very average, and at time unintentionally cheesy horror movie about a cursed knife made from human bone
It always feels like too much hard work to get into a Róisin Murphy album. Bad memories of her gig
Throughly enjoyable historical drama about the murder of a young duchess. Perfect amount of creative to descriptive prose
This was a very easy and light hearted read about Don Tillman, a university academic with autism and his efforts to find a partner via an exhaustive and awkward questionnaire. Along the way he meets Rosie Jarman, who, despite being completely incompatible in theory, inspires Don to change and ultimately fall in love with her. […]
Visually interesting and daring but suffers from old school pacing issues. Not really sure what I watched and I fell asleep part way through
A cruel and rambling movie that is senselessly sexually explicit
An eclectic album that is unexpected for me from a former pop star. Despite their bluntness, some lyrical gems that are like life maxims
I am officially too old for this type of gay media. It is way way too chaste – they can’t even say the word “sex” – and the preoccupation with labels and coming out and know your identity is exhausting and tiresome
I really struggled with this ambient gig, and actually fell asleep during the support act and wanted to go to sleep during the main event
Horrible but beautifully shot film. Very artificial and adult fantasy of teen sexuality but the visuals were so 90s/2000s the nostalgia got to me. Super cool
Amazing special effects – all the animal sequences were truely incredible and really made you sympathise with the characters
Strangely bad special effects, hampered by some weird casting and wardrobe choices. Funny, but way too long
So many incredible singles that tug at nostalgia. The last third is possibly a little weak but doesn’t detract from the incredible career of this band
I didn’t like this album to begin with despite academically knowing it was very well made. However, the disco was infectious and I woke up with some of these tunes playing in my head. So funky
Rambling, but strangely compelling. Really enjoyed the drumming on some of these tracks. Catchy and alternative. Another incredible trans artist
Strangely boring? Might be better listened to on headphones but not super excited about giving it repeat listens
Light, easy watching comedy drama about two awful people who use robots doubles of themselves to get out of boring jobs and relationships
Crystalline and ethereal contrasting with blunt and heavy. Beautiful. Hope to see him play live one day
Powerful depiction of the refugee experience but at its core, a story about a couple’s relationship under incredible strain and their journey to reconnect after shared trauma Published: 2019 Completed: 02/07/2023 Pages: 378 It’s been a really long time since I have read a book that has moved me like this has. The final pages […]
Great production design and interesting premise that is explored in an appropriately art house manner. Knew I was going to like this movie from the moment the titles screen came up with its highly graphic treatment
Visually incredibly but spent way too much time on the set up for the next movie that the plot in this felt drawn out
Teetering on enjoyable for me. Visually very fun and the dogs throughout were great, but I found myself resisting this female Joker for some reason
This place was a food highlight of Hobart. It’s a very small venue, and more than likely you will be sharing a table with others or seated somewhere that is frankly, awkward. Yet somehow, the food more than makes up for this. Understated, but clean, bright and tasty. I also think for what you’re getting, […]
Incredible. If it wasn’t for the noisy Americans sitting next to me, I would have been a sobbing mess in my seat. Literally was crying during this concert
Absolutely no doubt, Vue de Monde is the best degustation restaurant I have ever been to. Twelve courses that play with flavours, textures and presentation over two and a half hours, in a glittering venue, 55 floors above Melbourne. Arriving at the Rialto towers, you travel in an elevator that shoots up like a rocket, […]
Sounded perfect but somehow and ironically bloodless? Still really enjoyed myself
A weird comic book in a nostalgic Japanese / Astro Boy / Kimba style. Violent and sexually perverse. Seems very 90s shocking
A shapeless book of platitudes. Beautiful cliches that I guess are important to remember
Only the first two thirds were enjoyable. The last third was awful and wrecked the entire novel Published: 2015 Completed: 21/05/2023 Pages: 306 This sci-fi novel by Margaret Atwood is a bleak and misanthropic account of a desperately destitute couple who give up their freedoms in exchange for the anodyne comfort of the gated community […]
Fluff. Entertaining enough but the characters were too annoying for me to even consider ever wanting to watch this again
