Watching this for the first time in 2025 I get nostalgic for what seems like a simpler time in movie production. This is an action movie with a simple plot: The Warriors, a gang in New York, make their way home from the Bronx to Coney Island, facing various rival gangs along the way. Each […]
This movie was so predictable, that I correctly guessed the plot within the first 15 minutes. That said though, a movie does not have to be original – it only needs to be entertaining, and on that criteria, it succeeded for me. Rob absolutely loathed this movie. A lot of this, I will attribute to […]
So I have wanted for a long time to read a novel that would make me afraid to go into the dark or go to sleep. Unfortunately this novel was not able to achieve that. It was however a physically good book for swatting flies, with a death toll of three. Adam Nevill’s “The Ritual” […]
A great suburban pizza restaurant serving traditional fare without any of the pretension Location 193 Payneham Rd, St Peters SA 5069
The only reason I’m aware of Kiasmos is via their support act Juno Mamba for an upcoming gig. I begrudgingly listened to this album but am glad for it. It is obviously adjacent in style and genre to Juno Mamba’s ambient music but is more pristine. In many moments, this plinky, icicle like sound paired […]
Hyper engineered pop – sounds good but feels largely generic and featureless? Several songs do well to make Tate look like a crazy, messy woman that you wouldn’t want to have a long term relationship with. She also seems to spend a decent amount of time on her knees. So I guess I can really […]
I am just such a sucker for this glorious animation and visual style. Incredibly cute, almost perfectly casted with a story line that felt like it could have been written by a 5 year old (that’s a compliment by the way – cerealously!)
This was an inventive and well produced theatre adaption of Pip Williams’ novel of the same name. I came to it with only a vague awareness of the feminist themes but left pleasantly entertained if somewhat tired due to the phenomenally uncomfortable seating in the Dunstan Playhouse. Coincidentally before the play, Paul and I had […]
I didn’t realise I needed this until I heard it. Love the interpolation of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” on Birth4000 and the accompanying album visuals. Tracks on repeat
80s music made now. Took a few listens for me to get into it, but the obvious Kraftwork and Depeche Mode (and others) homages were compelling hooks. Some very naff lyrics but I guess that’s true to the style. Tracks on repeat
A lot of good music, set to very good dance / strip tease routines, with a simple and cohesive theme. Not quite drag and not as good as their last production, but still very fun https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/messy-friends-party-favours-af2025
“A Deep Time View of Australia’s Epic History” A decent depiction of indigenous stories presented alongside archeological findings. The 3d graphics made good use of the dome projection. https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/the-earth-above-a-deep-time-view-of-australia-s-epic-history-af2025
A great example of how offering an experience (dining in a hyper realised, authentic Mexican eatery) in addition to a good meal can elevate and justify eating out. Would 100% visit again Location 174 Smith St, Collingwood VIC 3066
Staged at the Queens Theatre, this was an immersive and powerful adaptation of the movie. It was very sparely produced with no set or costume changes, but was still engaging nevertheless. The actor who played Hedwig was incredible and carried the majority of the production
Surprisingly entertaining – did not feel as long as I thought it would
This place is great. Tasty food, for very fair prices, in an amazing quirkily designed restaurant that is worth going to alone for that. I don’t know what food mafia they’ve upset to receive the bad reviews they have. My experience was not negative at all and I’ll look forward to coming back. Location Churchill […]
Cleverly structured movie designed for short attention spans
A very messy performance in the main concert hall of the Sydney Opera House. They messiness was actually very enjoyable with Arca seemingly making up the set list as she went along. To this end, some instruments on the stage were never used. Charming and unconventional performance
A successfully epic movie that was so fully realised, it felt at times like watching an alien documentary. It did feel a bit long though
Maximalist show that had everything from mentalism, magic, acrobatics and music set to a sermon about AI and our relationship to technology. Could have done with an edit, but I enjoyed the unique take on the mediums https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/most-human-post-human-af2024
Relentless non stop 2000s era music mega mix with dancing routines and multiple costume changes. Incredible energy and effort https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/so-fresh-hits-of-the-2000s-af2025
A well made archive of the acid house movement in the UK. Was very effective at presenting what would have otherwise been potentially dry talking heads in context and made me nostalgic for something I’d never experienced first hand https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/in-pursuit-of-repetitive-beats-af2024
Visually very boring, and acoustically very samey. You can’t really fault the show because it’s exactly as promised but I can’t help but feel this would have been better as incidental music, i.e., to have people to dance to without watching the band
I don’t feel I fully understood this novel, but the story was dynamic and unpredictable. Possibly a bit romanced by the committed artistic and philosophical idealism displayed by the characters within
A richly whimsical novel of a boy who goes to live in the trees and never comes down. At times difficult to read, but evocative and pleasurable
Old fashioned temple romp. Enjoyably predictable but fun to watch
A predictable but artfully quirky and well produced movie. It felt icky to have the manipulative central protagonist win which was the main detraction for me
Very well made gay drama that is actually very close to being a horror movie
So many incredible singles that tug at nostalgia. The last third is possibly a little weak but doesn’t detract from the incredible career of this band
Teetering on enjoyable for me. Visually very fun and the dogs throughout were great, but I found myself resisting this female Joker for some reason
A weird comic book in a nostalgic Japanese / Astro Boy / Kimba style. Violent and sexually perverse. Seems very 90s shocking
Campy, light and gory movie. Not much substance but was inoffensive and enjoyable watching Nicholas Cage hamming it up as Dracula
So glad he is producing music again – a partial return to form
A repeated watching after many years, vaguely remembering the twist, means that a lot of the foreshadowing is very clever. However…just didn’t seem as amazing to me this time around
The use of “them/they/their” for the gender less main character was grating. Novel was otherwise pleasant and easy to read
Cute and great to watch with the earnest reactions of the mostly young audience. However I’m glad I didn’t pay for this
I think the only good episode in this series was the gay one. Also the ending – while true to the game – sucked
An inventive and fun interactive play with strangers contributing to the majority of the show’s execution https://adelaidefringe.com.au/fringetix/electric-dreams-work-txt-af2023
Good set by Bad Religion, but found support and headliners a bit samey
Absolutely not the sort of novel I would normally read. It was gruesomely violent but very suspenseful and exceedingly well paced. Let down by stereotypical characterisations Published: 2020 Completed: 2023/01/04 Pages: 482 Absolutely not the sort of book I would normally read. Having said that, it was exceedingly well constructed with superb pacing and plot. […]
Really interesting doomsday premise: rapid devolving of human society into fetid and base animals. Unfortunately like a lot of media in this genre, I was left wanting regarding an explanation of cause
Visually spectacular movie, with a very convincing Austin Butler as Elvis. Great typography and art direction as always
I want to like this album a lot more than I actually do but I go from liking it to being bored by it. Too cool
Entertaining, expensive and well put together. At the same time, annoyingly deliberate and drawn out
Very dry, intentionally flat comedy. I enjoyed it
Ridiculously crude and over the top. Some parts have perhaps not aged so well, but still funny nevertheless
A bit long but visually impressive movie with some new cute and humorous characters
Visually striking and absurd movie that is deep with themes of identity, sexuality and violence. Original and enjoyable
