7/10 Food

Visually nice atmosphere, ruined by brutal music being played too loud. The person serving us, noticing our difficulty with having conversation over the din, said that she “hadn’t played this vinyl before” and “wasn’t expecting it to be like this!”, yet did nothing to turn the volume down. It’s possible this environment is more agreeable to couples who will lean in more intimately towards each other, but for groups, it is a bit like simulated ADHD.

Food wise, it was mostly a hit with some misses. The edamame, despite being such a seemingly simple starter, was superb – garlicky, spicy and smoky. Likewise the buratta, which is starting to rival crudos for its ubiquity on menus these days. The renowned skewers were great flavour wise, but some were quite chewy and extremely spicy. This spiciness was something our group overlooked as the red chilli icons on the menu were rendered practically invisible by the dominant red interior lighting. Finally the braised pork donburi was okay but a bit lackluster. Ultimately what was the main struggle for me was the pricing – it’s very expensive and at this price bracket, possibly not quite justifiable when compared to other eateries in this category.
